- Metop Second Generation A1 (Metop-SGA1) was successfully launched on from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou on an Ariane-62 rocket.
- It is the first satellite under the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation (EPS-SG).
- It will operate in a polar orbit at 800 kilometres above Earth.
- The satellite carries 6 advanced instruments along with the Copernicus Sentinel-5 mission to collect high-resolution weather and atmospheric data.
- Metop-SGA1 will improve short- and medium-term forecasts and early warnings for extreme weather events.
- The satellite will orbit Earth 14 times daily and deliver global coverage to support climate action and air quality monitoring.
