- The Union Cabinet approved the Modified UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme to improve regional air connectivity.
- The scheme, launched in 2016, aims to make air travel affordable and accessible for common people in smaller cities.
- The scheme will run for 10 years, FY 2026–27 to 2035–36, with a total outlay of ₹28,840 crore.
- It aims to develop 100 new airports from unused airstrips and improve connectivity in remote and rural areas.
- Financial support will be given for the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of about 441 airports and for building 200 helipads.
- Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of ₹10,043 crore will support airlines to operate flights on less profitable routes.
