- Byrnihat, on the Assam–Meghalaya border, recorded the highest air pollution levels in India in early 2025.
- This date is released by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) report.
- Delhi ranked second with 87 µg/m³, over twice the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) of 40 µg/m³.
- Other highly polluted cities included Hajipur, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Sasaram, Patna, Talcher, Rourkela, and Rajgir.
- Aizawl (Mizoram) was ranked the cleanest city during the same period.
