Mud Volcano in Andaman

October 7 , 2025 5 hrs 0 min 20 0
  • India’s only mud volcano at Baratang in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands erupted on October 2, 2025.
  • The volcano had remained dormant since its last major eruption in 2005.
  • Mud volcanoes are formed by gases like methane pushing mud to the surface, unlike lava-based volcanoes.
  • This event is separate from recent minor eruptions at Barren Island, which is India’s only active lava volcano.
