National Crisis Management Committee

  • The Government of India has constituted the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) under the newly amended Disaster Management Act (Amendment) Act, 2025.
  • The amended Act, effective from April 9, 2025, gives legal status to key bodies, including the NCMC.
  • The NCMC had functioned informally even before the Disaster Management Act of 2005.
  • On July 23, the Ministry of Home Affairs released the Disaster Management National Crisis Management Committee (Procedure) Rules, 2025.
  • The committee is designated as the apex body responsible for handling disasters with national ramifications.
  • The committee will assess preparedness for any threatening or emerging disaster situation and issue necessary directions to strengthen response capabilities.
