National Teachers Day 2026 – September 5

India observes Teachers’ Day every year on 5 September to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 at Tiruttani, Tamil Nadu, and was a philosopher, scholar and educationist.
He served as India’s first Vice President (1952–1962) and second President (1962–1967).
He served as India’s Ambassador to the Soviet Union (1949–1952) before becoming Vice President.
He received the Bharat Ratna in 1954 and was also awarded the Order of Merit in 1963 by the United Kingdom.
