- A total of 1,73,826 people were killed in 4,64,029 road accidents across India in 2023.
- The number of fatalities increased by 2,726 from 1,71,100 deaths in 2022.
- Over-speeding had caused 58.6 percent of the deaths, amounting to 1,01,841 fatalities.
- Two-wheelers accounted for the highest share of deaths at 79,533, or 45.8 percent.
- Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh reported the most two-wheeler deaths at 11,490 and 8,370.
- National highways saw 60,127 deaths, forming 34.6 percent of total road accident fatalities.
