The Government of India has started a viability assessment for seven new high-speed rail (bullet train) corridors announced in the Union Budget 2026–27.
The project will be implemented by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).
The seven proposed corridors will cover about 4,000 kilometres across major cities in India.
The total estimated cost of the project is about ₹16 trillion.
The corridors include Mumbai–Pune, Pune–Hyderabad, Hyderabad–Bengaluru, Hyderabad–Chennai, Chennai–Bengaluru, Delhi–Varanasi, and Varanasi–Siliguri.
India’s first bullet train project, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, is currently under construction.
