- A new Himalayan flowering plant has been named Impatiens nimspurjai after Nepali mountaineer Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja.
- The plant was first observed in 2011 in Nepal’s western Myagdi district and was formally described after more than a decade of study.
- Impatiens nimspurjai belongs to the genus Impatiens and the family Balsaminaceae.
- It grows on humid slopes and forest margins at an altitude of about 2,800–2,900 metres in the Himalayas.
- The name honours Purja’s mountaineering achievements and environmental work through the Nimsdai Foundation.
