New HRCE Department

Tamil Nadu Government has decided to create a separate Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department at the Secretariat.
The new department will have administrative control over the HR&CE Commissionerate, the field-level arm located at Nungambakkam, Chennai.
The Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act, 1959 provides the legal framework for administration of Hindu religious institutions and charitable endowments.
The Commissioner of HR&CE is the head of the department and handles administrative affairs and statutory functions under the Act.
The move separates HR&CE administration from the Commercial Taxes and Registration Departments and requires amendments to the Tamil Nadu Government Business Rules, 1978.
