  • The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs issues a new policy framework on relocation and co-existence in tiger reserves.
  • The policy brief released in October 2025 outlines procedures for relocating forest-dwelling communities from tiger reserves.
  • It states that relocation must occur only after settling rights under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006.
  • It requires consent verification at both the Gram Sabha level and household level before notifying any area as part of a tiger reserve.
  • It proposes a National Framework for Community-Centred Conservation and Relocation and a National Database on Conservation-Community Interface (NDCCI).
  • It recommends annual independent audits to ensure compliance with the Wildlife Protection Act (WPA) 1972 and the FRA.
