The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs issues a new policy framework on relocation and co-existence in tiger reserves.
The policy brief released in October 2025 outlines procedures for relocating forest-dwelling communities from tiger reserves.
It states that relocation must occur only after settling rights under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006.
It requires consent verification at both the Gram Sabha level and household level before notifying any area as part of a tiger reserve.
It proposes a National Framework for Community-Centred Conservation and Relocation and a National Database on Conservation-Community Interface (NDCCI).
It recommends annual independent audits to ensure compliance with the Wildlife Protection Act (WPA) 1972 and the FRA.
