  • The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has launched a large-scale study called BHARAT.
  • BHARAT stands for Biomarkers of Healthy Aging, Resilience, Adversity, and Transitions.
  • It is part of India’s Longevity India Program to study aging.
  • The goal is to find physical, molecular, and environmental signs that affect ageing in Indians.
  • The Researchers are creating India’s first detailed aging database called Bharat Baseline.
  • Biomarkers are measurable biological signs, like genes, proteins, and chemicals in the body.
  • This study will help to challenge Western standards that label many Indians as deficient in vitamin D, B12, or cholesterol.
  • The database will help improve disease diagnosis, treatment, and drug design tailored to Indians.
