New UNESCO World Heritage Sites

The UNESCO added several new cultural, natural and mixed sites to the World Heritage List during its 48th World Heritage Committee session in Busan, South Korea.
The new sites include Normandy D-Day Landing Beaches (France), Mount Olympus (Greece), Asuka-Fujiwara Archaeological Sites (Japan) and Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape (South Sudan).
Mount Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece (2,918 metres) and is recognised as a Mixed Heritage Site for its cultural and natural importance.
Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape became South Sudan's first World Heritage Site and protects one of the world's largest land mammal migrations.
The World Heritage Convention (1972) protects cultural and natural sites with Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) for humanity.
