June 6 , 2025 7 hrs 0 min 24 0
  • The Madras High Court upheld the validity of a ban imposed by the Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority (TNOGA) on playing Real Money Games (RMG) between 12 midnight and 5 a.m.
  • It has also refused to interfere with requirements such as mandatory Aadhaar verification for playing the RMG.
  • The Division Bench held the State legislature was fully competent to enact a law governing online games by invoking Entry 6 (public health and sanitation) and Entry 26 (trade and commerce within the State) of List II (State list) in the seventh schedule to the Constitution.
  • The court concluded that the 2025 Regulations were a necessary response to a growing public health crisis and aligned with Article 39 of the DPSP.
  • The government also argued that the restrictions brought in were reasonable restrictions and were protected under Articles 19(2) and 19(6) of the Constitution.
