  • Two new non-luminous firefly species, Lamellipalpodes kurumba and Lamellipalpodes debprasama, have been described from the Nilgiris district.
  • The discovery increases the total number of known Lamellipalpodes species to 14, with five now reported from India.
  • Lamellipalpodes kurumba was named in honour of the indigenous Kurumba tribe for their role in protecting the Nilgiris’ biodiversity.
  • Lamellipalpodes debprasama was named as a tribute to the parents of researchers Arnob Chakrovorty and Banani Bhattacharjee.
  • The genus Lamellipalpodes includes non-luminous fireflies distributed across India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Thailand.
