  • The Centre for Earth Sciences and Himalayan Studies (CESHS) has successfully drilled the Northeast region's first geothermal production well in Dirang.
  • It is located in Arunachal Pradesh's West Kameng district.
  • Dirang is a medium-to-high enthalpy geothermal zone, with estimated reservoir temperatures of 115°C.
  • This makes it highly suitable for direct-use geothermal applications.
  • The Geothermal energy is used to heating and cooling buildings with heat pumps, generating electricity with power plants, and directly heating structures through direct-use applications.
