- Hatcheries for Olive Ridley sea turtle nesting have been set up in Chennai for the 2025–26 nesting season.
- A fully operational Olive Ridley hatchery has been established at Besant Nagar beach.
- New hatcheries are planned at Neelankarai, Kovalam, and Pulicat.
- The Olive Ridley nesting season along the Tamil Nadu coast starts in December and continues till April.
- The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has begun night patrolling and nest monitoring to protect turtles and eggs.
- Around 50 hatcheries are planned initially this season, compared to 60 hatcheries set up in the previous nesting season.
