  • The Tamil Nadu government will plant 10 saplings for every palmyra tree cut under unavoidable circumstances.
  • Permission to cut palmyra trees must be obtained through the 'Uzhavan' (Farmer) mobile application.
  • The palmyra tree was declared the State tree of Tamil Nadu in June 1988.
  • In 2021, the agriculture minister announced that permission would be mandatory to cut down palmyra trees.
  • According to the Tamil Nadu Khadi and Village Industries Board, there were about five crore palmyra trees in Tamil Nadu as of 2019–2020.
  • The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University stated that there are about 10 crore palmyra trees in India.
  • Of the total palmyra trees in India, five crores are located in Tamil Nadu.
  • The Tamil Nadu government has been implementing a mission to protect the State tree for the past three years.
