He was born in 1936 in Uttar Pradesh, and trained under Ustad Abdul Ghani Khan of Kirana Gharana.
He is known for his spiritually evocative and soulful singing.
He blended Kirana and Benaras gharana styles, reflecting the musical heritage of Varanasi.
Mishra was awarded the Padma Vibhushan and was renowned for his devotional music in multiple languages, including Awadhi, Brij bhasha, Urdu, and Sanskrit.
