Parliament Monsoon Session efficiency

  • The Monsoon Session of Parliament ran from July 21 to August 21, 2025, and was marked by frequent disruptions and adjournments.
  • The Lok Sabha functioned for only 29 percent of its scheduled hours, while the Rajya Sabha worked for just 34 percent.
  • This was the lowest productivity recorded in the 18th Lok Sabha so far, largely due to repeated protests and stalled proceedings.
  • Only 23 percent of Question Hour was completed in the Lok Sabha, and a mere 6 percent in the Rajya Sabha.
  • No oral answers were given on 12 days in the Rajya Sabha and seven days in the Lok Sabha during the session.
  • Ministers answered just 8 percent of starred questions in the Lok Sabha and 5 percent in the Rajya Sabha.
  • The Income-Tax Bill, 2025, was withdrawn after a Select Committee report and replaced with a new Bill passed the same day.
  • Operation Sindoor was discussed for 19 hours in the Lok Sabha and 16 hours in the Rajya Sabha, taking up a major share of total time.
  • The 18th Lok Sabha has not elected a Deputy Speaker since it was formed, and the previous 17th Lok Sabha also lacked one for five years.
