Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme

Tamil Nadu expanded the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme on 22 September 2026 to students of Classes VI to VIII.
The expansion will benefit 15.3 lakh students in 15,454 government and government-aided schools across Tamil Nadu.
The scheme was launched at Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai, with students being served breakfast.
Breakfast will be provided through centralised kitchens in urban areas and by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in rural areas.
The scheme was originally launched in September 2022 for Classes I to V and was later renamed after Kamarajar.
A total of ₹724 crore has been allocated, including ₹217.63 crore for the expansion.
