- Google announced Project Suncatcher, a plan to build AI-powered data centres in space.
- These data centres will be solar-powered satellites to save energy and water used on Earth.
- They will use free-space optical links to transfer data at tens of terabits per second.
- Google aims to launch two prototype satellites by early 2027 to test space-based Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) hardware.
- Space-based solar panels are up to 8 times more efficient than those on Earth.
- TPUs called Trillium v6e are being tested for radiation resistance and extreme condition performance.
