  • Red-necked Phalarope (Phalaropus lobatus) was spotted for the first time at Nanjarayan Bird Sanctuary in Tiruppur.
  • It is a rare species typically found in coastal or marine areas, not in inland water bodies.
  • This marks the 192nd bird species recorded in the sanctuary.
  • The bird breeds in the Arctic and winters in southeastern countries, feeding on planktonic invertebrates using a spinning technique.
