  • Since 2021, Tamil Nadu’s wind energy sector has attracted over 5,700 crore and added 816 megawatts of capacity.
  • An additional 4,200 crore is planned for 600 megawatts of new wind projects.
  • The State’s solar energy sector has received over 23,500 crore for 6,736 megawatts of projects.
  • Solar projects worth 39,000 crore (5,700 megawatts) are under advanced approval stages.
  • Tamil Nadu ranks fourth nationally in total installed renewable capacity with more than 25,500 megawatts.
  • Installed wind capacity is 11,500 megawatts, making the State second in India.
  • The State aims to source 50 percent of its power requirements from renewable sources by 2030.
  • Tamil Nadu targets a 70 percent reduction in carbon emissions and Net Zero by 2070 in line with national commitments.
  • Projected power demand is expected to rise from 20,700 megawatts to 35,500 megawatts by 2034–35.
  • A 500 megawatt Pumped Storage Project is planned at Kundah.

  • The National Institute of Wind Energy and the India–Denmark Green Strategic Partnership are preparing for India’s first offshore wind project off the Tamil Nadu coast.
