For the first time, the Supreme Court of India has introduced a formal reservation policy for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) staff.
The policy covers the direct appointments and promotions in the court’s internal administration.
It took effect from June 23, 2025, covering posts like registrars, senior personal assistants, assistant librarians, junior court assistants, and chamber attendants.
SC staff will get a 15% reservation quota, and ST staff will get 7.5% in promotions.
The move was initiated during the tenure of Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, the second SC CJI.
