- For the first time, the Supreme Court of India has introduced a formal reservation policy for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) staff.
- The policy covers the direct appointments and promotions in the court’s internal administration.
- It took effect from June 23, 2025, covering posts like registrars, senior personal assistants, assistant librarians, junior court assistants, and chamber attendants.
- SC staff will get a 15% reservation quota, and ST staff will get 7.5% in promotions.
- The move was initiated during the tenure of Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, the second SC CJI.
