The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution seeking exemption from the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) for teachers appointed before August 23, 2010.
The resolution seeks an amendment to Section 23 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) had made TET compulsory for teachers from August 23, 2010.
About 3,28,701 teachers who have served for 15–20 years could be affected by the TET requirement for promotion and continuation in service.
The Supreme Court has directed these teachers to clear TET by August 31, 2028.
The resolution urges the Union Government to take legal steps and issue a notification through NCTE.
