Rubella Elimination - Nepal

  • Nepal has eliminated rubella as a public health problem, confirmed by the WHO.
  • The rubella vaccine was introduced in Nepal’s immunization program in 2012.
  • Rubella is a contagious viral infection that can cause serious birth defects if pregnant women are infected.
  • By 2024, over 95% of Nepal’s population had received at least one dose of the rubella vaccine.
  • Nepal is the sixth country in the WHO South-East Asia Region to achieve rubella elimination.
  • The South-East Asia Region targets measles and rubella elimination by 2026.
