- The Repurpose Used Cooking Oil (RUCO) initiative by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) promotes converting used oil into biofuel.
- Tiruchirappalli-based kB Energy Corporation collects used oil from over 2,000 units in seven districts and has stored nearly 30 tonnes ahead of Deepavali.
- FSSAI norms allow 20 to 25 percent of used cooking oil to be repurposed, and Tamil Nadu has three biofuel plants among 64 in India.
- Collected oil is filtered and stored in Tiruvanaikovil and supplied to authorised biofuel manufacturers.
