  • The Sangai Festival is an annual cultural festival of Manipur.
  • The festival was named after the Sangai deer, which is Manipur’s state animal and symbolises the cultural identity of the state.
  • A major attraction of the festival is the Ras Leela, Manipur’s classical dance form, which is performed to emphasise the state’s spiritual and cultural depth.
  • The festival also aims to draw attention to the conservation needs of the endangered Sangai deer, which is found only in the Keibul Lamjao National Park located on the floating phumdis of Loktak Lake.
  • It is listed as Critically Endangered by IUCN and listed in Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
