Sant Guru Ravidas' 650th Birth Anniversary

  • The 650th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas is being commemorated across India with programmes from July 29, 2026, to February 20, 2027.
  • Guru Ravidas was a 15th–16th century Bhakti movement saint, poet and social reformer, traditionally believed to have been born in Seer Govardhanpur, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh).
  • He preached equality, social justice, devotion to one God and the dignity of labour, while opposing caste discrimination and social inequality.
  • His devotional hymns are included in the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism.
  • He is associated with the idea of "Begampura", an ideal society free from sorrow, discrimination and injustice.
  • Guru Ravidas Jayanti is observed every year on Magha Purnima (full moon day of the Hindu month of Magha).
