  • The Court held that CSR spending on environmental protection is a constitutional obligation and not charity.
  • This obligation arises under Article 51A(g) of the Constitution of India.
  • The judgment was delivered in the case of MK Ranjitsinh and Others versus Union of India.
  • The case was related to the protection of the Great Indian Bustard, an endangered bird species.
  • The Court stated that companies must bear conservation costs if their activities harm wildlife and ecosystems.
