  • The SPoCS is a flagship scheme by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to promote scientific temper and awareness.
  • The scheme was implemented through the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous body under the ministry.
  • As of July 2025, 27 Science Centres have been established across India under this scheme.
  • The Centres in Northeast states receive 90% funding from the Ministry and are located in cities like Shillong, Dimapur, Gangtok, and Aizawl.
  • Category-III centres are set up in areas with populations below 5 lakhs to promote inclusivity.
