  • The Sustainable Harnessing of Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill was approved by the Union Cabinet in 2025.
  • It is the biggest reform in India’s nuclear sector since the Atomic Energy Act, 1962.
  • The Bill is introduced by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) under the Prime Minister of India.
  • It replaces old laws like the Atomic Energy Act, 1962 and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010 (CLND Act).
  • The bill aims to expand nuclear power, allow private participation, and reach 100 Gigawatt (GW) nuclear capacity by 2047.
  • The Bill proposes an independent nuclear safety authority and clearer nuclear liability rules.
