- The Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) developed a siphon-based thermal desalination system using fabric wicks and metal surfaces.
- The system avoids salt buildup by flushing brine continuously, solving the main problem of traditional solar stills.
- The setup recycles heat across multiple stages, increasing water output using only solar or waste heat.
- Made from low-cost materials like aluminium and cloth, it works even with very salty water (up to 20% salt).
