Special PhD Admission Drive for SC/ST Candidates

- IIT-Delhi has started its first-ever special admission drive for the PhD candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories.
- This initiative aims to address the ongoing shortfall in seat occupancy for SC/ST students at the doctoral level.
- According to the government reservation rules, IITs must reserve 15% seats for SC and 7.5% for ST in higher education admissions.
- However, IIT-Delhi’s data shows actual SC/ST intake at the PhD level has been below these targets.
- From 2015-16 to 2024-25, SC enrolment increased slightly from 8.88% to 9.69%, while ST enrolment rose from 0.97% to 3.28%.
