Tamil Nadu Raptor Survey 2026

  • Tamil Nadu has recorded 51 species of raptors in its first statewide scientific assessment conducted by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department.
  • The survey was conducted in January–February 2026 under the guidance of the Tamil Nadu Raptor Research Foundation.
  • The survey recorded 40 diurnal raptor species and 11 nocturnal raptor species.
  • It included rare and threatened species like the White-rumped Vulture, Red-headed Vulture, and Indian Vulture.
  • The assessment provides baseline data for conservation, monitoring, and habitat protection of raptors in the state.
