- China launched a space probe Tianwen 2 on the country's first mission to retrieve samples from an asteroid and bring back for research.
- It is headed to Kamo'oalewa (also referred to as 2016 HO3), a small, unusual near-Earth asteroid.
- It will bring samples of the object to Earth sometime in 2027.
- This asteroid is a "living fossil" consisting of the ancient materials that can help scientists understand how the early Solar System formed.
- Tianwen 2 will also explore the comet 311P.
- 311P orbits in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
