- A new freshwater crab species, Ghatiana karnataka, has been scientifically described from Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka.
- Ghatiana karnataka is the 15th species of the Ghatiana genus recorded from the Western Ghats and is among the species endemic to Karnataka.
