- The Telangana Legislative Assembly has passed a Bill abolishing the two-child norm for contesting local body elections.
- The earlier law, enacted in 1994, disqualified candidates who had more than two children.
- The new law is titled the Telangana Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
- This Bill replaces the earlier Ordinance issued on the same subject.
- The Bill was introduced by the Minister for Panchayat Raj, Danasari Anasuya Seethakka.
- The amendment allows all eligible citizens, irrespective of the number of children, to contest Panchayat Raj elections.
