  • For the first time in history, India’s total number of teachers has crossed the 1 crore mark in the academic year 2024-25, as per the UDISE+ report.
  • This marks a 6.7% increase in the number of teachers compared to the 2022-23 academic year.
  • India currently has nearly 15 lakh schools and over 24 crore students.
  • Approximately 50% of students are enrolled in government schools, 41% in private schools, and the rest in government-aided schools.
  • Female representation among teachers has increased, with over 54.3% of school teachers being women.
  • Girls’ enrolment in schools has reached 48.3%.
  • The Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR) has improved across all educational levels, with the PTR at 10, 13, 17, and 21 for Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary levels, respectively.
