  • Global military spending hit a record $2.7 trillion in 2024, up 9% from 2023.
  • Military spending is projected to reach $6.6 trillion by 2035 if trends continue.
  • Rising military budgets divert resources from Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Military spending increased from 2.2% to 2.5% of global GDP since 2022.
  • Over 100 countries raised military expenditure in 2024 alone.
  • A 1% increase in military spending in low- and middle-income countries cuts public health spending nearly equally.
  • Reallocating 15% of military spending could fund climate adaptation in developing countries.
