UNESCO added Pakistan’s Boreendo to the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding list in 2025.
The Boreendo is a clay vessel-flute from Sindh linked to musical traditions of the Indus Valley Civilization.
It is handmade from terracotta, has a round hollow body, and produces soft, breathy musical tones.
Archaeological sites like Mohenjo-daro and Harappa have shown that similar clay and bone flutes existed in the Indus Valley Civilization (3300–1300 BCE).
