Use of Green Crackers in Delhi-NCR

- On 15 October 2025, the Supreme Court permitted the sale and use of certified green crackers in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) under regulated conditions.
- Only firecrackers with the NEERI (National Environmental Engineering Research Institute) from Nagpur stamp and scanner code were allowed for sale and use.
- The reintroduction of green crackers followed a Supreme Court order modifying the 2018 blanket ban, marking a shift to balance public health and tradition.
- Green crackers are designed to reduce emissions by about two-thirds compared to conventional crackers but are not zero-emission products.
- Three types of green crackers have been developed by NEERI are
- SWAS (Safe Water Releasable),
- STAR (Safe Thermite Cracker), and
- SAFAL (Safe Minimal Aluminium).
