- The Supreme Court quashed several FIRs registered at Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh over alleged offence of "mass religious conversions" of Hindus into Christianity.
- The FIRs were filed under Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
- As per the UP Act, as it stood then, only victims (or their relatives) could have lodged an FIR.
- The SC held that, the criminal law cannot be allowed to be made a tool of harassment of innocent persons.
