- The Central Groundwater Board (CGWB) and state governments have assessed dynamic groundwater resources every year since 2022.

- The Ministry of Jal Shakti launched the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) in 2019, targeting 256 water-stressed districts.
- The JSA Catch the Rain (CTR) campaign began in 2021 and expanded nationwide with focused districts each year.
- The 2023 JSA CTR prioritized 150 districts identified by the Jal Jeevan Mission.
- The 2024 campaign focused on 151 districts identified by CGWB under the theme Nari Shakti se Jal Shakti.
- The 2025 JSA CTR campaign targets 148 districts identified by CGWB with emphasis on grassroots participation and innovative financing.
- A total of 148 Central Nodal Officers has been assigned to the 148 high-focus districts for the 2025-2026 campaign.
