Wild Elephants Survey 2025

  • Tamil Nadu recorded 3,170 wild elephants in May 2025, an increase of 107 from the 2024 count of 3,063.
  • The synchronised survey covered 8,989.63 square kilometres across 26 forest divisions using both direct and indirect methods.
  • The Nilgiri Elephant Reserve reported the highest population with 2,419 elephants (Block Count) and 3,163 elephants (Dung Count).
  • Adults made up 44 % of the population, and the sex ratio was recorded at 1 male to 1.77 females.
