  • 2024 was the warmest year on record in Asia with widespread and the prolonged heat waves.
  • Global mean temperature in 2024 was the highest from 1850–2024.
  • It was surpassing 1.45°C set in 2023.
  • Sea surface temperatures in Asia reached record highs, warming nearly twice as fast as the global average.
  • Sea level rise on Asia’s Pacific and the Indian Ocean coasts exceeded the global average.
  • 23 out of 24 monitored glaciers in the Himalayas and Tian Shan have lost mass, increasing glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF) and landslide risks.
  • Marine heatwaves of strong to extreme intensity affected most Asian ocean areas in 2024.
  • UAE saw 259.5 mm rainfall in 24 hours — among the most extreme events since 1949.
  • Lightning strikes across India in 2024 killed about 1,300 people; 72 died on July 10.
  • Drought in China affected 4.8 million people and caused Chinese yuan (CNY) 2.89 billion in direct losses.
