- The aim is to raise awareness and increase understanding of World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
- It was first endorsed by the World Health Assembly as an official global health campaign.
- AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial agents.
- Infections caused by AMR are harder or impossible to treat, increasing the risk of severe illness and death.
- The theme for 2025 is “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.”
