The day aims to raise awareness about rabies prevention and elimination.
The theme for the year 2026 is “Stronger Together”.
Rabies is a deadly zoonotic disease that kills nearly 59,000 people every year.
Once symptoms appear, rabies has an almost 100% fatality rate.
The day has been marked globally since 2007 with support from the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC).
