The day aims to promote sanitation, hygiene, dignity, and environmental care.
The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) organized events including the 3-day World Toilet Summit with Sulabh International and the World Toilet Organization.
The theme for 2025 is “Sanitation: Collective Responsibility for Dignity and Planet.”
It was first recognized globally by the United Nations in 2001.
UN-Water is the official convener of World Toilet Day.
Prior to that, World Toilet Day had been established unofficially by the World Toilet Organization (a Singapore-based NGO) in 2001.
